Overview
As the Project Manager and Civil Design Engineer for the Highway No. 11 Commercial Site Development, I lead a team in transforming an undeveloped property along one of Saskatchewan’s key transportation corridors into a commercially viable site. Commissioned by the Fond du Lac Development Corp., the project aims to foster local economic growth by creating infrastructure to support essential services, including a gas station, office spaces, and storage facilities. The project is deeply intertwined with the Planning for Growth (P4G) Area Planning framework, necessitating a delicate balance between compliance with municipal and regional standards and the economic aspirations of the local communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Directed the project’s evolution from conceptualization to detailed design, ensuring that every aspect of the land use planning adhered to both timelines and budget constraints, while aligning with municipal, provincial, and regional regulations.
- Led the civil design of the site’s infrastructure, overseeing the layout of roadway access, utility services, and stormwater management systems, ensuring strict adherence to the rigorous standards of the P4G framework.
- Coordinated closely with the P4G Planning Committee and various regulatory bodies, ensuring that the project complied with broader regional planning goals, including infrastructure improvements and environmental protections.
- Engaged with an array of stakeholders, including the Ministry of Highways, local municipalities, Indigenous communities, and environmental regulators, ensuring their feedback was integrated into the project’s planning and design phases.
- Proactively identified and managed potential risks, including regulatory compliance and environmental challenges, to ensure the project remained on track and adhered to all relevant requirements.
Outcomes and Impact
Although the project is ongoing, the Highway No. 11 Commercial Site Development is on track to meet its objectives, with detailed planning and design expected to be completed by March 2025. The project’s alignment with the P4G Area Planning framework ensures that it supports regional growth and adheres to regulatory standards. Upon completion, the site will be primed for development, contributing to the long-term economic vitality of the surrounding communities.
