Overview

As Project Manager and Civil Design Engineer, I led the development of various metal recycling facilities across seven (7) municipal jurisdictions in Saskatchewan and Alberta. This project involved both greenfield and brownfield site development across locations ranging from 8 to 31 acres. My role was to ensure that the civil infrastructure—potable water, sanitary services, and stormwater management—was designed to comply with regulatory standards and accommodate the unique requirements of each municipality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Led the preliminary and detailed civil design for the infrastructure systems required for each site, focusing on potable water, sanitary service, and stormwater management to ensure the facilities met both municipal and environmental standards.
  • Managed the coordination of utility and regulatory permit applications, including working with Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Railway to ensure compliance with transportation-related regulations, especially for brownfield developments near railway corridors.
  • Collaborated with municipalities in Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, Swift Current, Regina) and Alberta (High Prairie, Lloydminster, Calgary, Bonnyville), along with consulting engineers, regulatory agencies, and railway entities, to ensure efficient execution of all design and planning stages.
  • Produced and managed tender packages, administered contracts, and conducted cost analysis and progress claims review to ensure that each project remained within budget and met established timelines.
  • Supervised and executed change orders to address emerging site conditions, ensuring projects maintained compliance with municipal regulations and stayed on track.

Outcomes and Impact

Through successful coordination across multiple jurisdictions, the Inland Steel Products Site Development project met all regulatory and environmental standards. This facilitated the environmentally responsible expansion of Inland Steel’s operations in Saskatchewan and Alberta, aligning infrastructure improvements with local development goals and ensuring that environmental impacts were mitigated.
